The topic of the work is the restoration and conversion of the old Emaille factory, in the settlement of Korissia on the island of Kea. It is a complex of industrial buildings with a total area of 8,000 sq.m. located on an area of approximately 21 acres. The buildings are typical examples of industrial architecture of the early 20th century, two of them have even been classified as listed. The factory operated from 1928 to 1957 and played a very important role in the economic and social life of the island in general.

Our proposal concerns the creation of a multi-functional complex, the central axis of which will be a model Environmental Education Center (ECC). This center will mainly address primary and secondary school students of Attica schools, and aims to cultivate environmental literacy through various educational programs. The premises of the ECC are mainly developed in the largest building of the old factory located in the center of the plot and include, among other things, lecture rooms, laboratories and a library.

The main idea is, however, that the teaching should not be limited to the interior spaces of the center but also take place in the outdoor environment, which was given special importance so that it itself constitutes an educational example.
